Hiking Training Zone

Welcome to your Mighty Hike Training Zone

We have worked with the experts at Running With Us to create a hiking training guide for each Mighty Hike. Each guide includes a 15-week training plan and all the information you need about finding the right hiking gear, preparing for different terrain, preventing injury and nutrition.

Our top 5 tips on how to train for a hike

Good hiking shoes

Make sure you spend time trying on different hiking shoes. Find something with good support and grip that suits you, and take a fresh pair of hiking socks to change into halfway through your hike.

Have an exercise routine

You might need to rework our training plans so they fit around your lifestyle and that’s ok. Schedule in the sessions for the days and times that give you the best opportunity to focus.

Diversify your training

As well as hiking as part of your training, why not try to fit in some cross-training activities? Cycling, swimming and gym work will quickly enhance your fitness and make the miles feel easier.

Fuel and recovery

Throughout your training make sure you are drinking lots of water, eating well and resting when needed to reduce the risk of injury and fatigue.

Prepare to hike in all weather

The changeable British weather is all part of the challenge, so make sure you check the forecast before each hike and dress sensibly. Make sure you have removable layers and waterproof clothing.
